Graduate Route

Eligible international students who successfully complete qualifying UK courses may be able to apply for the Graduate route.

For applications made on or before 31 December 2026, eligible graduates can generally receive 2 years of permission. For applications made from 1 January 2027, the period for eligible non-doctoral graduates is 18 months. Doctoral graduates can receive 3 years.

Important: The Graduate route is not itself a settlement route. Your longer-term options depend on your circumstances, employment, visa eligibility and the immigration rules in force at the time.

Plan Your Future

Study in the UK. Build Your Career. Plan Your Long-Term Future.

For many students, the goal is bigger than earning a degree.

They want to build a professional life in the UK.

That's why understanding the potential journey beyond graduation is important.

A Typical Long-Term Journey Can Look Like:

Study Complete an eligible UK qualification
Graduate Explore eligible post-study options
Work Build relevant professional experience
Skilled Worker / Eligible Route Meet the relevant immigration requirements
Settlement / ILR Subject to the immigration rules and eligibility requirements applicable at the time.

The Skilled Worker route is currently a route that can lead to settlement, subject to meeting the applicable requirements. GOV.UK currently states that settlement on this route generally requires a continuous qualifying period of 5 years along with other eligibility requirements.
